LA Whirlwind

June 10th, 2010

Only working in LA for a week, I am already positive this is where I should be right now. With E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) next week, we at IndieCade have kicked it into high gear to be prepared for the big event! Between revamping the website, creating various banners for our booths, and coordinating with all of the game makers for the multiple events happening during E3, I haven’t even had time to feel homesick of Seattle (the sunshine is a nice contrast to the rain I left). I couldn’t be happier working with such a creative, intelligent, fun group of people and feel quite fortunate to have a role in it all.

Now, although I have been working hard to get up to speed with all of the planning, I have found some time to

FUN SLIDE

spend with friends and enjoy the outdoors. For all of you reclusive gamers out there, I highly recommend you try it sometime! ;) On Memorial Day, after dropping my brother Phil at the airport, I was getting on the 105 E about to head back to downtown LA, when it dawned on me that going west might be more enjoyable on that beautiful day. I couldn’t move into my apartment at that point and was crashing on Kristin’s couch, so off to the beach I went! It only took me a few minutes to already have plans with Megan and friends in Hermosa beach to celebrate Memorial Day at Fiesta Hermosa! We enjoyed relaxing at the beach, watching the awesome cover bands, and perusing the fair, when we spotted an irresistible attraction: THE FUN SLIDE! Moments later with tickets in hand, we were racing down the rainbow slide on basketball print fleeces. If we decide to disqualify the cheaters *Bo* then I’d say I won!

After a great day at the beach, Megan and I went to see Sex and the City 2 at the Grove. Upon entering the theater, Megan spotted none other than SATC’s Smith Jerrod. I can attest that he is, indeed, an absolut hunk.

The next day after a wonderful welcome to IndieCade lunch with

Sunset at the top of Runyon Canyon

Stephanie, I moved some stuff into my apartment, although still bedless, and showed Kristin’s summer roommate, Lydia, Runyon Canyon. It was her very first time in Los Angeles so what better way than overlooking the whole city. Little did I know, Lydia went to college on a track scholarship! I enjoyed the challenge of keeping up as we stormed up the trails. The payoff was worth it as we were left with a gorgeous view and a rockin’ work out to boot!

That’s all I have time for tonight, but stay tuned to hear about my experience at the Lakers’ Finals Game, KROQ Weenie Roast, hosting international gamemakers at my apartment, and so much more!

WELCOME

June 2nd, 2010

Welcome to I VON A BLOG! Here, I wanna blog.

I will cover my experience planning IndieCade, life as a recent graduate, and whatever else LA throws at me.

First off, a bit about me. I am a girly gamer who dreams a world with more girly gamers. This does not mean girls who do nothing else but play WoW (World of Warcraft) and have no external life (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but that’s just not me. I am a bubbly, social, sorority girl who loves playing all types of games and believes there should be more FUN in the world. I grew up immersed in a world of gaming with 2 older brothers, and continue to love playing a variety of games. I also just graduated from USC’s Interactive Media Division of the School of Cinematic Arts and am working to be a game producer.

Most importantly, I believe in the HUGE potential for Casual/Mobile games. I look around and see every one of my friends playing some sort of (lame) game on their phones, and yet none of them would ever say they are gamers. What’s up with that?! You play games. So maybe it’s an issue of semantics, maybe it’s the stigma of video games. Whatever the case, I hope to see them play better games (than Brickbreaker, even though I love it) and I hope to be the one providing those games for the millions of girls out there left with little to obsess over.

Thanks for checking my blog out and stay tuned for posts in the near future!
